한국영상자료원과 부산국제영화제가 공동으로 기획, 발간하는 ‘일루미네이션 총서’의 다섯 번째 결과물. 2007년『김승호: 아버지의 얼굴, 한국영화의 초상』과 2008년『한형모: 통속/장르의 연금술사』, 2010년 『그녀가 허락한 모든 것: 스타, 배우, 그리고 김지미』, 2011년 『김기덕, 60년대 한국 대중？장르영화의 최전선』에 이어 다섯 번째로 내놓은 일루미네이션 총서는 17회 부산국제영화제 회고전의 주인공 배우 신영균의 삶과 작품을 이야기한다. 영산대 영화영상학과 교수 주유신과 대진대 연극영화학부 교수 신강호, 광운대 동북아문화산업학부 교수 강성률과 동국대 영화영상학과 교수 유지나가 필자로 참여했다.
