A Petty Middle Manager
Director Lee Bong-rae’s ‘A Petty Middle Manager’, which was re-illuminated through the last Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival Retrospective Exhibition, provides a comic depiction of the daily joys and sorrows of a petty bourgeois family. Featuring various episodes centering on low-salaried manager Goo Joon-taek (Kim Seung-ho) who is under pressure at work and lacking in authority at home, this work is a home drama showing director Lee Bong-rae’s unique witty dialogues and refined composition. He develops each person’s character and provides harmonious acting by character actors and actresses such as Do Kum-bong, Bok Hye-suk, Kim Hee-kap, and Yoon In-ja. It contains Actor Kim Seung-ho’s documentary, film critic Kim Jon-won’s explanation, and a picture collection as supplements, together with an interview with lighting director Park Chang-ho, who is specially associated with director Lee Bong-rae and a booklet containing Korean film history researcher Lee Gil-seong’s explanation, thus increasing its value as a Korean classic film DVD.
