Film Education Programs of BFI - Focused on Programs Offered by BFI Southbank
British Film Institute (BFI), established in 1933, is a specialized institute whose budget is sponsored by the UK government yet free of its control, and a distributor of Film Rotary Fund. BFI's principal goal is to provide a firm ground for films as a core of British culture by supporting and nurturing next-generation filmdom and audiences.
In order to do that, BFI has one of its priorities on expanding educational and learning opportunities and engaging new audiences across the country, supporting the UK Film industry for its success, and opening its film legacy to everyone in the UK. For example, BFI Southbank offers school programs for elementary and secondary schools students where teachers and students from each school participate in an educational program associated with school curricula throughout the year, and also runs various subspecialized programs as well including film production courses for kids and teenagers with interest in making films. Such programs offered by BFI Southbank are so popular and influential that the number of participants goes beyond 50,000 per year. This report examines BFI's educational programs, focusing on those offered by BFI Southbank for kids and teenagers.
