Japanese Colonial Era Movie Data Series
Joseon Films in Japanese Magazine, vol. 6
The recently published 《Korean Movies featured on Japanese Magazines, vol. 6》 can be categorized into two sections. The first one gathered articles omitted from magazines such as 『Action Gurakbu』『Action Magazine』『Play and Kinema』『Kinema Sunbo』『Kinema Jubo』『Movie Critics』『Scenario Studies』『Scenario Behaviors』『Friends of Movies』and『Star,』and the second section has translated documents related to Korean from “Movie Yearbook,” which collected overall information about movies, such as 『Japanese Movie Industry Survey』『International Movie Yearbook』and『Japanese Movie Yearbook』.
If the past series focused on articles on Korean-period movies in Japanese, 《Korean Movies featured on Japanese Magazines, vol. 6》 contains articles on Japanese movies that dealt with Korean, were located in Korean, and released in Korean, along with the work of Japanese actors in Korean, a disturbance caused by Japanese fans of Korean dancers in a movie, and foreign films that were popular in the Gyeongseong movie industry. Also included is a catalog of cultural films, criticism about scenarios that were never made into movies, and Japanese policies on the movie industry. This is expected to provide an opportunity to explore scenes from Korean the period and Koreandomestic movies during the Colonial period from a broader perspective, as well as establish a foundation for national cinema studies based on structural viewpoints.
