Joseon Films in Japanese Magazine 3

As the third volume of the 『Joseon Films in Japanese Magazine』series that began to be published in 2010, this contains translations of Joseon movie-related articles found in the wartime movie magazine of the Japanese Empire, titled 『Ten-day Movie Report』. In particular, this sourcebook contains not only Joseon movie-related articles but also articles that enable reviewing the effects of national policies regarding movies of the Japanese Empire on Joseon movies so that the relationship between movie policies and Joseon movies at the end of the Japanese colonial era can be grasped in depth.

The 『Ten-day Movie Report』was founded on January 1, 1941, and a total of 100 editions were published until its publication was discontinued on November 21, 1943. This third volume published only articles published in 1941 and 1942 due to limited paper space. The articles published in 1943 will be contained in the fourth volume to be published later. Recently, research on the history of Joseon/Korean movies has gone beyond the world of filmologie to obtain interdisciplinary vitality; the research area has been expanded to the frame of comparative movie histories, which includes the effects of Western movies and exchanges between East Asian movies.
